Every person has the chance to make a change for good — no matter how big or small. Whatever amount you can give, or time you are willing to dedicate, know that your contribution makes a difference in the lives of others. Your donation, together with those of our other supporters, brings us ever closer to our goals.

If everyone reading today donated the price of their morning cup of coffee, we would meet our fundraising goal for the entire campaign.

The Iron Mountain Steam Team

Aspen Welker

At the age of 5, Aspen and his grandmother began volunteering at the Iron Mountain Railroad. As the years went by, Aspen teamed up with Billy Mikoliza to bring attention to a small steam engine; Number 5.

Billy  Mikoliza

Billy has always been in love with trains. So much in fact, that he began volunteering at the Iron Mountain Railway in 2010. After many years of persistence, he was finally able to create a foundation alongside Aspen Welker and Matt Terlunen to restore the Iron Mountain's steam engine, Number 5.

Matt  Terlunen

Since 17, Matt has been infatuated the Crab Orchard and Egyptian Railroad, former home of Number 5. This year, he began volunteering at the Iron Mountain Railway, and joined Aspen and Billy on their journey to restore Number 5.

Founded in 2020, we are an organization that is made up entirely of volunteers. Our sole purpose is to restore the Iron Mountain Railway's steam engine, locomotive No. 5, to her former glory and put the little engine on display for all to admire.

For the past sixteen years, locomotive no. 5 has been in complete disarray and out of the public eye. We are proud to be working on the conservation project that can restore this little piece of our communities' history as well as our railroad's history.
